When we look at flueless gas fires definition, flueless fires mean these fires do not require a chimney or a flue pipe (although they do require a gas supply connection). They are clean-burning fires with any fumes released into the room coming from the vent at the front or the top of the fire.

How do flueless gas fires work?

Some of the air that the fire takes in is also used to help feed the gas flame (which you can adjust in terms of height, meaning you have complete control).

As part of the combustion process, no harmful emissions are released because carbon monoxide passes through a catalytic converter at the top of the fire. Here, combustion gases are converted into harmless carbon dioxide and water vapour, which are at the same levels that are typically found in fresh air.

• There must be minimal clearances to the sides and the front of the fire. 
• The room must have adequate ventilation – in the UK, 100cm2 of additional purpose-provided ventilation is required for all flueless appliances.
